Lake Tahoe's Best Hotel

Updated: Aug 25

A few summers ago, I decided on a spontaneous trip to Lake Tahoe without high expectations, but to my surprise, it turned out to be an incredible experience. With it not being the easiest travel day from Miami, meaning no direct flights, is another major reason why I was skeptical (I never love a layover, but who does?). Upon arriving at the Edgewood Hotel in South Lake Tahoe, I was mesmerized by the scenic drive, the entrance to the hotel was superb, and the hotel lobby was fabulous. Being greeted with champagne is always a great start to any trip. Lake Tahoe is not only a popular summer destination but also a fantastic winter getaway, offering endless activities throughout the year. Simply put, I think it is the most beautiful lake in the country with some of the clearest water and the most fascinating rock structures. It has become one of my top destinations to visit during summer, and I have already returned every summer since!

Edgewood Hotel is a one-of-a-kind luxury resort located right on the shoreline of Lake Tahoe. With the lake being in two different states, Edgewood is on the Nevada side, bordering California. If you're big into golf, you may recognize this hotel as it has a world-renowned golf course with multiple championships played here each year, as well as multiple celebrities that come to play. It has been rated one of Golf Digest's favorites. Edgewood has two restaurants, a pool bar, spa, and much more. When you come out of the back doors of the hotel, you are greeted with a lush green lawn with fun family games, fire pits, seating, and of course the beach on the Lake. It is truly like something out of a movie with how perfect and polished it is. In 2023, it was honored with the World's Best Award by Travel and Leisure, and this year it has been awarded the Forbes 2024 title. If that doesn't speak volumes, I'm not sure what does! Edgewood always has a constantly revolving activity list and calendar with new events weekly. Below, I will list my must-do summer activities I did during my stay and where to go!

  • Boat Rental: You must get out on the lake and explore the beautiful crystal blue water. It is always a bit chilly, so not a place I personally went swimming, but there's so much to see aside from that. My favorite spots to visit by boat were Emerald Bay, Sand Harbor, and Secret Cove.

  • Hiking: Tahoe is known for some of the most beautiful hikes, and I have to say some of my all-time favorites are here. Maggie's Peak, The Rubicon Trail, Ellis Peak Trail, and Angora Lakes Trail.

  • Spa: Edgewood Spa, The Ritz Carlton Spa

  • Best Restaurants: Edgewood, Lone Eagle Grill, Wolfdales, Manzanita, and Le Bistro.

I'm excited to return to Edgewood during the winter to experience the skiing and all there is to offer. One aspect of the hotel that I particularly enjoyed was all the seating around the property to be able to watch the incredible sunsets, as well as the nightly s'mores station arranged for guests to enjoy beside the fire. Nothing beats a nightcap and s'mores to end the evening. Everything about this hotel was exceptional, from the service to the food. Just wait until you see this hotel and Lake yourself, I truly couldn't recommend it more!

Getting to Lake Tahoe:

  • The closest airport to fly into is Reno, Nevada.

  • From Miami there are no direct flights and travel time is about 7 1/2 hours including the connecting flight.

  • Reno is about a 45-minute drive to the closest area of Lake Tahoe and then goes up from the depending where on the lake you're staying.

  • There is a Lake Tahoe airport 20 minutes from the Edgewood hotel for private planes and charters.

Cheers!
