Exploring the Beauty of Lake Como

Getting There

Flying into Milan would be the easiest and fastest way to get to Lake Como, with the beginning of the Lake being only an hour's drive from the Milan airport. We decided to take the easiest route and hire a driving service to take us to the hotel. I personally always prefer to have a driver so that I can enjoy the scenery during the ride, as opposed to trying to figure out directions. Our hotel was able to provide the car service reservation and varies from about 100 euros to 250 euros, depending on what part of the lake you are staying in. The other option for getting from Milan to Lake Como would be to take the train. The train runs all day with many different timing options. It takes about 45 minutes and stops at the beginning of Lake Como in the town of "Como". You would then need to get a taxi to your destination from there.

Stay

Bellagio is the most popular town in Lake Como with plenty of hotels, restaurants, and shopping. However, we decided to stay in a small boutique hotel just 25 minutes south of Bellagio by car. The name of the hotel is Villa Làrio with the most breathtaking views of the lake. Nestled among the cliffs are two villas consisting of 14 suites, a restaurant, and a pool. Whether you're relaxing by the pool or having an aperitivo in the garden, this hotel will guarantee an incredible stay.

The restaurant offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner catering to modern Italian cuisine. Every dish we were served looked like a work of art. A few favorites on the lunch/dinner menu were the Seabass crudo, beef carpaccio, Tagliolini scampi, and the veal. Reservations are a must, whether you stay at the hotel or are just popping in for drinks and dinner.

Other incredible hotel recommendations would be:

  • Grand hotel Tremezzo

  • Mandarin Oriental

  • il Sereno

  • Passalacqua

The activities / must dos:

Villa Lario offers many activities including spa, pool, yoga, golf, picnics in the garden, and much more. The number one thing I would recommend doing is to get out on the lake and rent a private boat with a captain. It is so romantic and such a fabulous way to see the lake.

The outfits

As far as outfits for Lake Como, I see it as a very classic Italian style. Lots of flowey dresses and skirts, but also comfortable. During the day, whether you're boating or walking around the town, a little sundress with sandals or sneakers is perfect. As for the evening, it gets a bit more dressy, and I would recommend a dress, trousers with a nice top, and heels. Below is a snippet of what we wore to dinner at the hotel.

What to know before going

-Lake Como is not walkable as it massive. The Main towns of Bellagio, Tremezzo or Como however are completely walkable.

-Most stores and restaurants in the towns shut down in the late afternoon (around 3-6:30)

-Busy season is June- August

-Reserve as much as you can during busy season

-Parking during season can get complicated and would recommend either taking the ferry or hiring a driver.

-It is possible to do a day trip from Milan however I wouldn’t recommend.

-3 -4 nights would be the perfect stay in my opinion

-There are public ferries for getting from town to town (they can sometimes take a bit longer than hiring a driver depending on where you’re going)

Lake Como is an absolute dream that exceeded all my expectations! It's a real-life fairytale that will leave you in awe. Whether you're looking for a romantic getaway or an adventurous trip with friends, Lake Como belongs at the top of your bucket list. Overflowing with luxury and charm, this destination is a definite must-visit. Our stay at Villa Lario was simply stunning and we will be returning with much more to see of this magical lakeside escape!

Safe travels!!!
