Writer's picture: Keva BalanKeva Balan

London remains one of my top suggestions for European travel, offering a plethora of attractions and activities. With numerous new hotels and restaurants having opened recently, we were eager to explore and share our experiences at these fresh hotspots, as well as revisit some of our favorite must-see places in the city. Perhaps my guide as a "local" is a little far fetched but I did live there previously and as my husband is originally from London we are there quite a bit.

Restaurant & Bar Hot Spots

The Peninsula

Located in the heart of Belgravia, just off Hyde Park, The Peninsula stands out as one of London's newest and most luxurious hotel openings. As you step into the grand lobby, you are greeted by a display of some of the finest cars in the world, setting the tone for the opulence that awaits. The atmosphere oozes a sense of mystery and sophistication, adding to the allure of the place.

The Lobby bar, with its elegant ambiance, serves as a perfect setting for a leisurely Afternoon Tea or a delightful Lunch experience. However, our journey led us to the Brooklands Bar, a true gem where we indulged in exquisite pre-dinner cocktails. The bar's design, inspired by aviation and motorsports, pays homage to British classics with meticulous attention to detail. The centerpiece, a bar resembling a Rolls Royce, is a true masterpiece that captures the essence of luxury and elegance.

As we savored our cocktails, we were treated to breathtaking views of iconic London landmarks such as Big Ben, Tower Bridge, and the lush greenery of Hyde Park. The combination of impeccable service, stunning design, and panoramic vistas made our experience at The Peninsula truly unforgettable, leaving us with memories to cherish for a lifetime.

The Broadwick Soho

The Broadwick in Soho stands out as a unique and captivating venue in the heart of London. Tucked away just off Broadwick Street, this hidden gem beckons with its striking pink Georgian door, guarded by a welcoming doorman. The hotel, owned and curated by a close-knit group of friendsradiates an air of exclusivity reminiscent of a bygone era in Soho's history.

Stepping inside, guests are enveloped in a world of whimsical and eclectic design. The interiors are a feast for the eyes, featuring vibrant shades of pink, luxurious velvet fabrics, daring animal prints, and an overall maximalist aesthetic that oozes glamour and sophistication. Every corner of The Broadwick tells a story, inviting visitors to immerse themselves in its rich tapestry of design and ambiance.

For a culinary experience like no other, guests can indulge in a meal at Dear Jackie, an intimate Italian restaurant within the hotel. The restaurant's unique charm and exquisite cuisine provide a delightful contrast to the bold decor of the rest of the venue, ensuring that no detail is overlooked in creating a memorable dining experience. After savoring a delectable meal, guests can ascend to Flute, the hotel's rooftop bar, for a taste of the vibrant nightlife scene in Soho. Here, they can sip on expertly crafted cocktails while enjoying live music performances, adding a touch of excitement and energy to an already unforgettable evening. It's no wonder that The Broadwick has quickly become one of the hottest destinations in London, offering a blend of luxury, style, and entertainment that is truly unparalleled.

One of the most exceptional hotels that I have had the pleasure of experiencing around the globe is Claridges. This establishment exudes an unparalleled sense of glamour and sophistication that is truly remarkable. During my stay, I was truly impressed by the impeccable level of service and the meticulous attention to detail that permeated every aspect of the hotel. The sheer luxury and elegance of Claridges create an unforgettable experience that lingers long after you have checked out.

Even when I am not staying at Claridges, the allure of this iconic hotel beckons me back time and time again. It has become a must-visit destination for me whenever I find myself in London. Whether it is for a casual drink or a sumptuous dinner, Claridges never fails to disappoint. I highly recommend indulging in the culinary delights at Claridges restaurant, where every dish is a work of art.

Moreover, a visit to the Fumoir and Painters Room at Claridges is an absolute must for anyone seeking a truly unique and unforgettable cocktail experience. These bars exude a distinctive ambiance that is both captivating and sophisticated. The Fumoir and Painters Room are hidden gems within Claridges that offer a refined setting to savor expertly crafted cocktails and engage in delightful conversations.

The Swankiest Coffee Spots

The coffee scene has definitley changed worldwide and we have seen a rise in beautiful spaces to sip on coffee and a tasty baked good. Recently we went to Cafe Leon Dore & also have Cedric Grolet at the Berkley on our list for when we return to London for your every day coffee we love Watchhouse which is dotted all aorund the city.

Shopping Hot Spots

While it's recommended for everyone to visit Oxford Circus and Regents Street, taking a leisurely walk down Bond Street is a much more refined and less crowded experience. The architecture is a delight to admire while indulging in some window shopping.

Whenever I visit London, I always make sure to stop by Harrods. Their shopping options are consistently fantastic, but what I truly love is exploring the renowned Harrods food hall. And don't forget to check out the Shoe haven!

Known as the original department store, here you will find a number of boutique stores and jewelers.

Liberty & Selfridges would be next on my list, Liberty is steepd in history and they are well known for their signature patterned wares it always makes for a nice keepsake from the trip and Selfridges stocks a range of items from designer to high street goods.
