Aspen Winter activities suitable for pregnant travelers.

It's been a while since my last post, but I have a good excuse. I've been brewing something special!

We're expecting a baby girl this June and couldn't be happier.

The pregnancy so far has had its ups and downs. This is my first pregnancy at the ripe age of 42, and I've certainly had my fair share of symptoms. No symptom could keep me away from our yearly trip to Aspen though, I just had to make some adjustments to my itinerary as Ski lessons were now off the table.

This is by no means a comprehensive list, but here are some ideas to help fully maximize your trip to Aspen while pregnant, so that you can still get your winter wonderland fix!

1. Explore with a snowmobiling tour

Set off on an unforgettable snowmobile journey and discover Aspen's breathtaking winter scenery in a whole new way! Guided snowmobile tours offer an exhilarating opportunity to delve into the core of Colorado's natural splendor, suitable for all ages and skill levels. These excursions are conducted by knowledgeable, seasoned guides who emphasize safety and convey their love for Aspen's winter paradise.

From the stunning Maroon Bells to the hidden Snowmass backcountry, there are tour options for every type of adventurer—including picturesque lunch tours that offer a remarkable experience. We spent a morning with Lazy 7 Tours and can't recommend it enough!

2. Experience a Snowcat Chauffeured dinner ride

Embark on a snowcat journey for a truly enchanting Colorado dinner adventure at either the famed Cloud Nine in Aspen Highlands or the delightful Lynn Britt Cabin in Snowmass! These restaurants are renowned for their distinctive atmospheres, ensuring memorable dining experiences.

Cloud Nine is renowned for its vibrant Veuve Clicquot celebrations that happen daily—so prepare to be soaked in champagne! Meanwhile, the Lynn Britt Cabin provides a warm, family-friendly getaway in a charming Western-themed environment, ideal for guests of all ages.

The snowcat rides provide a fantastic opportunity for non-skiers to immerse themselves in these mountaintop dining experiences at iconic restaurant locations.

3. Experience a sleigh ride

Aspen provides charming horse-drawn sleigh or carriage rides, ideal for all ages and any occasion. Whether you're gliding across a snow-covered ranch or exploring Downtown Aspen, these rides add a special touch to your mountain getaway. The Pine Creek Cookhouse enhances the experience by offering sleigh-drawn rides to their luxurious Alpine restaurant during the winter months. With both public and private options available, these carriage and sleigh rides promise to create an unforgettable experience

4. Ride to Gondola up to the Sundeck

Do you have friends who are skiing? Purchase a sightseeing pass and take the gondola up to the sundeck restaurant to join them for lunch at the mountain's summit. The journey to the top lasts around 20 minutes. At the peaks of both Aspen Mountain and Snowmass, you'll find restaurants and bars with outdoor seating, perfect for relaxing and enjoying the scenery after your ride. Remember to walk along the trails at the top of Aspen Mountain for truly panoramic views.

5. Replace cocktails with hot chocolate or hot apple cider

Although not technically an "activity" I enjoyed strolls around town with a piping hot "Hot apple cider" between gloved palms. There are plenty of places you can grab a hot beverage, Gorsuch is a must drop-in place for me, because it's close to the hotel and the prices are very reasonable. Grab a hot chocolate with marshmallows at the little Nell for $18.00.

6. Shop 'til you drop

There is literally no better place to get swept up in the Vibe than Aspen. $1000 Kemo Sabe hat, needed! Eye-wateringly exy Sherling trimmed purse? Must have!

The shopping in Aspen is so, so fun and there's a lot of options with designer boutiques: Hermes, Valentino, Prada, Bottega Veneta, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Loro Piana, Ralph Lauren, Van Cleef and Arpels, Alice and Olivia to name a few. Theres also some bespoke boutiques selling furs and fur accessories, luxury ski wear and gear, antiques, artworks and pretty much everything you can think of.

7. Enjoy cozy dinners at fantastic restaurants

This goes without saying, and you should have your reservations sorted a month in advance, but the food scene in Aspen is just too great not to include on this list!

My husband and my personal faves are: Matsuhisa, French Alpine Bistro, Meat and Cheese, Clarks Oyster Bar, Cache Cache, Steak House 316, Betula, the Wild Fig and Catch Steak.

Don't forget a cozy mocktail at the J Bar at Hotel Jerome, or at the Lobby bar at the St Regis pre-dinner!

There you have it, my guide to Aspen for pregnancy. Don't forget to get advice from your doctor for activities like snowmobiling- they will remind you that you assume all responsibility (although the tour is safe enough for kiddos.)

If the altitude gets a bit much, the Rescue Lounge in town is a great place to get an oxygen treatment, or you can ask the hotel for BOOST Oxygen cans which helped me a lot. Also, don't forget to have a humidifier going in the room while you sleep, to help prevent feeling dry throughout the night.

We simply can't wait for next year's trip with baby Poppy! she will only be about 8 months old, but we already have plans to bring her to the mountain!
