A Weekend in Carmel

Staying at the Bernardus Lodge & Spa in Carmel Valley, California was one of the most enjoyable getaways. This stunning hotel is nestled amidst the Santa Lucia Mountains, 28 acres of vineyards, orchards, and gardens. A highlight for me on vacation is always a beautiful hotel lobby, and Bernardus consistently impresses with their gorgeous flower arrangements that welcome you upon arrival. With numerous Forbes and Michelin awards, this resort is a must-visit if you find yourself in northern California. Below is our 3-day itinerary for your stay in Carmel!

Lobby Bernardus' Grounds

Friday:

-Check into hotel

-Bernardus Winery Tour and pairing for lunch

-Walk around and explore the property

-Appertivo

-Dinner at Lucia Restaurant

Upon our arrival at SFO airport at approximately 11:30 am on Friday morning, we proceeded directly to the car rental area (we always aim to travel light with carry-ons whenever possible). We were off on a scenic drive lasting about 2 1/2 hours. After checking in at the hotel, we headed over to the Bernardus winery we had scheduled for 3:30 pm. The winery was conveniently located just a 5-minute drive from the hotel, so transportation was easily arranged. The wine and food tour, priced at $150 per person, was truly fantastic. We then returned to the hotel, unwound, and prepared for aperitivo followed by dinner at Lucia in the hotel. The evening was delightful with a beautiful, cool night setting the perfect tone for the start of the weekend!

Saturday:

-Tennis

-Breakfast at the hotel

-Explore & shop around Carmel by the sea

-Lunch at La Bicyclette

-Walk to the beach

-Dinner at Mission Ranch

We began the day by playing several rounds of tennis in the morning, followed by having breakfast at the hotel. After that, we showered and head to visit Carmel-by-the-Sea. This quaint village spans just one square mile and is characterized by charming fairytale cottages. Instead of building numbers, houses are identified by names, making it a unique experience. Our lunch was at Bicyclette, and we walked along the waterfront admiring the stunning homes & architecture. Returning to the hotel, we readied ourselves for dinner at Mission Ranch, a 20-minute drive away. This restaurant, located amidst fields and animals, offered not only breathtaking views but also exceptional food!

Sunday:

-Breakfast at Carmel Bakery

-Helicopter tour around Big Sur

-Lunch at Nepenthe

-Massages at Bernardus

-Room service

Our last day in Carmel we headed into town to try Carmel Bakery which came highly reccomened. From there we were feeling adventerous and decided to do a helicopter tour over Big Sur. This was one of the most beautiful helicopter rides ive taken. We then had lunch along Big Sur at a restaurant called Nepenthe. If you have time doing the drive along the coast here is gorgeous. We headed back to the hotel for our 4pm messages. Bernardus is known for their luxurious spa with an amazing menu of services. That night we decided to stay in the hotel and enjoy the firplace and balcony in our hotel room! Luckily Bernardus does offer room service so we went that direction!

What to know before going:

-San Fran or San Jose Mineta is the closest international airport

-SFO to Bernardus is 2 hour and 15 minute scenic drive

-Definetly recommend renting a car

-If you don't have a car the hotel will provide you with one of their Mercedes complimentary

-Bernardus is 20 minutes away from the town of Carmel.

-Spring or Fall is personally my favorite time to go

Safe Travels!
