A Taste of Capri

During our honeymoon a few years back, I was instantly enchanted by the beauty of the Island of Capri. Capri is a place that either captures your heart or doesn't and I can confidently say that I was completely smitten. The experience of arriving and absorbing it all remains a memory that will always stay with me. The island is low key, yet glamorous at the same time. Although it is possible to visit Capri on a day excursion, we suggest staying for 3-4 nights to truly immerse yourself in everything the island has to offer. This way, you can appreciate the tranquility of the mornings and evenings once the boat tours have returned to the mainland or other islands. Capri is an island where walking is the primary mode of transportation, as only small trucks are used for deliveries and vendors. Be prepared to do a lot of walking during your visit.

Traveling to Capri

There are several ways to reach Capri, with the most convenient option being to fly into Naples and then transfer to the ferry terminal for a 50-minute ferry journey to the island. Alternatively, you could opt for a luxurious private transfer, or for the ultimate experience, arrive by helicopter. While the latter two options come at a higher cost, they offer a touch of extravagance! We have experienced both the private transfer and ferry options, and although they provide different levels of comfort, they both lead to the same destination in the end which is really where it all begins.

Arriving to Marina Grande, I would always try and arrange a transfer from the ferry in advance of your arrival, particularly if you’re traveling with a number of bags. I would arrange for the bags to be transported to your vacation property from the port, generally any of the higher end hotels will offer this service but if you are staying in a boutique hotel or rental property you can also pay for the service yourself.

Where to Stay

Capri offers a variety of options, including luxurious 5-star hotels like La Palma (the most recent addition), JK Place, and Quisisana. Additionally, there are charming boutique hotels like La Residenza or Mamela that are worth exploring. If you prefer a more immersive experience in Capri, you can also consider renting various properties.

Where to Eat & Drink

Don't miss visiting the renowned La Fontelina, which is owned and operated by the same family and team every year. I recommend booking a table for lunch at 1 PM and taking the opportunity to relax on the beach afterwards. The timeless charm and exceptional seafood keep us coming back, and a swim is a must for its invigorating and delightful experience. If you're up for it, you can climb the stairs back up, or opt for a boat transfer back to Marina Piccola.

There are certain restaurants that we frequent repeatedly, such as Il Riccio for lunch, Le Camarelle for their pasta and seafood, a fantastic choice for both lunch and dinner, and Villa Margherita for their Pasta alla Nerano or Veal Milanese, as well as the friendly greeting from the owner.

When it comes to savoring a cocktail at sunset, one of our top recommendations is The Punta Tragara Hotel. The staff is consistently outstanding, the cocktails are truly delightful, and the view of the sunset and the Faraglioni rocks from this spot on the island is unparalleled.

It can get a bit cool, so a helpful tip is to bring a Pashmina along, especially since this location sits right at the edge of the island.

One of the most popular places to enjoy gelato is located in the heart of Capri. You'll immediately notice the enticing aroma of freshly baked waffle cones and you'll likely find yourself in line with other gelato enthusiasts. Don't pass up the opportunity to try gelato from the renowned Gelateria Buonocore in Capri. We recommend making a visit to this gelato shop in the late evening or whenever you spot a short queue, preferably after dinner so you can take a leisurely walk around, observe people, and soak in the lively atmosphere of the city center.

Best Beaches & Beach Clubs

Unlike the white sandy beaches found in other destinations, the beaches in Capri are rocky but boast incredibly beautiful waters. For a refreshing swim, make your way to Marina Piccola. Consider having lunch at Da Gioia before taking a dip in the afternoon. La Fontelina for lunch and beach as well as Da Luigi ai Faraglioni for a more laid back approach are always suggested.

What to wear in Capri

Capri embodies a stylish, traditional Italian vibe, with a preference for light, colorful dresses, and separates. The key element is that everyone opts for flat shoes, as Capri is a place for strolling. This adds to the island's charm, so it's best to leave high heels at home and opt for comfortable flats during the day. Remember to bring something dressier for the evening; if you forget, there are plenty of shops where you can purchase glamorous flats or even have custom Capri flats made, which is a worthwhile experience.

This post offers a first look at Capri and I am excited to provide further insights from this stunning location. What's really exciting is that now, Fallon, Carlin, and I have all had the chance to experience the magic of Capri together. I am already planning my next trip back!
