If you’re dreaming of a mix of vibrant city life, quaint seaside charm and interesting dining, Cork, Ireland, promises all that and more. Known as ONE of Ireland’s top culinary destinations, Cork boasts exceptional farm-to-table experiences, local seafood, and world-class chefs, putting it firmly on the map for food lovers. Here’s a detailed look at how we spent four delicious and inspiring days exploring this gem.

Day 1: Cork City
Stay: Hayfield Manor
Our journey began in Cork City, where we stayed at Hayfield Manor, a classic yet luxurious hotel just a 20-minute walk from the heart of the city. The walk itself was lovely, allowing us to take in the city’s vibrant streets before retreating back to the tranquility of Hayfield Manor at night. They also had a great indoor pool which was an added benefit to the hotel.

The English Market
Cork’s English Market is one of Ireland’s oldest and best-known markets, renowned for its impressive variety of fresh, local produce, meats, cheeses, and artisanal goods. Wandering through the it we expected it to be more bustling stalls, we took in the local specialties and admired the historic charm of this market—a nice visit for any traveler to Cork, especially those with a love for fresh, authentic food.

Dinner at The Glass Curtain
Our first evening’s meal was at The Glass Curtain, a restaurant that has made waves with its inventive approach to Irish cuisine. The food was superb, but what truly set it apart was how accommodating the staff were with my food allergy—they even prepared a special menu for me, which was a first and such a thoughtful touch. The Glass Curtain’s blend of creativity and hospitality made it an unforgettable dining experience.

Cocktails at Cask
After dinner, we headed to Cask, a celebrated spot known for its inventive cocktails and cool atmosphere. Each cocktail here felt like a work of art, crafted with unique flavor combinations and local ingredients. It was the perfect way to cap off our first night in Cork City, sipping exquisite drinks in a relaxed yet lively setting.
Morning Coffee at Cork Coffee Roasters
To kick off the next day, we stopped by Cork Coffee Roasters for some much-needed caffeine. This cozy café is a favorite among locals and travelers alike, and it didn’t disappoint. The freshly roasted coffee gave us the perfect boost as we set off for our next destination: Kinsale.
Day 2: Kinsale
Stay: Actons Hotel
Our next stop was Kinsale, a charming coastal town renowned for its colorful streets, scenic harbor, and culinary scene. We stayed at Actons Hotel, a recently renovated property with a prime location in town. While Actons is a four-star hotel, it offered a warm, comfortable experience, and its central location made it easy to explore Kinsale entirely on foot. It is probably the best option for accommodation while in Kinsale.

Coffee at Seeds and Dinner at Rare
We started our day with a coffee at Seeds, a delightful spot with a cozy vibe where we sat outside and sipped our coffee and snacked on some baked good. For dinner, we booked a table at Rare, an under-the-radar gem that truly exceeded our expectations. Rare’s chef’s tasting menu was a highlight of our trip. Each course was thoughtfully crafted, reflecting local flavors in unexpected ways, and the experience was intimate and beautifully paced. Rare also features an impressive, albeit limited, wine list that pairs perfectly with each course, making for an exquisite dining experience. Rare deserves a full house every night, and I can’t recommend it highly enough.

Drinks and Traditional Music at Kitty O Se’s
Following dinner, we headed to Kitty O Se’s, a classic Irish pub known for its lively atmosphere and traditional music. Sipping a drink listening to folk tunes surrounded by friendly locals was the perfect way to wind down the night, and it made us feel truly immersed in Ireland’s rich culture. It was the only spot that had a bit of late night craic in Kinsale.
Day 3: Kinsale

Exploring Kinsale
The next day, we took advantage of Kinsale’s walkability, strolling around town to explore local boutiques, art galleries, and gift shops. This town has a welcoming and laid-back vibe that’s perfect for a leisurely day of discovery.
Lunch at Fishy Fishy
Fishy Fishy came recommended as a local staple, but our experience here fell short of expectations. Unfortunately, the food and service didn’t quite live up to the hype, and we wouldn’t recommend it.
Afternoon Tipple at Blue Haven
We later stopped at Blue Haven for a cozy afternoon drink by the fire. This charming spot was a lovely place to unwind, enjoy a warm beverage, and take in the relaxed atmosphere of Kinsale.
Dinner at The Black Pig and Cocktails at Harry’s
Our final evening in Kinsale featured dinner at The Black Pig, a wine bar and restaurant known for its carefully curated menu. Each dish was beautifully presented and delicious, and the wine list offered excellent options. We ended the night with cocktails at Harry’s, a fun spot with a lively crowd. Harry’s Supper Club, a nearby venue, is also an excellent choice for an evening out in Kinsale.
Notable Mentions
While we couldn’t make it to Bastion, Saint Francis Provisions, or Toddies at the Bullman, these are popular with locals and come highly recommended. If you’re planning a trip, I’d suggest checking their hours and making a reservation. They’re on my list for our next visit.
Day 4: Castlemartyr
Stay: Castlemartyr Hotel
For our final night, we indulged in the elegance of Castlemartyr Hotel. This five-star property was a nice bit of luxury and the room offered all the amenities needed for a restful night in. Though we were feeling a bit under the weather, we enjoyed a relaxing evening, complete with a bath, a movie, and room service. It was the perfect way to wind down after a busy few days of travel.

A Walk on the Grounds
The next morning, we explored the hotel’s expansive grounds, where we were lucky enough to see swans taking flight across a small lake. It was a peaceful moment that left a lasting impression, reinforcing the beauty of our time in Cork.

Visit to Ballymaloe House and Cookery School
On our way out, we stopped by the Ballymaloe Cookery School, a nearby institution known worldwide for its culinary teachings. Just a short drive from Castlemartyr, I have always been interested in visiting this iconic school.

Final Thoughts
From Cork City’s lively streets and rich food culture to Kinsale’s quaint charm and Castlemartyr’s luxury, this four-day trip introduced us to the best of what Cork has to offer. Whether you’re a passionate foodie or simply someone looking for a memorable escape, Cork has something to suit every taste.
Known as one of Ireland’s top culinary destinations, Cork’s farm-to-table approach, inventive chefs, and cozy dining spots make it a great stop for food lovers while traveling around Ireland.
